I am a Library Specialist at the Central Arkansas Library System in Little Rock, Arkansas. Previously, I worked at the Poudre River Public Library District in Fort Collins, Colorado. I have really enjoyed working in public libraries. My interests include adult services, research, & technology.
Given my background in digital media and mobile technology, my focus is on cataloging, instructional media, web development, and adult programming. A key component to achieving my goals include mastering an organization of knowledge, whether navigating traditional classification systems, organizing complex metadata, familiarizing MARC standards, or developing a technology curriculum.
Imagine a world—philosophy. My education began by questioning action, language, and motivation. What makes people move? As an undergraduate at the University of Arkansas, I pursued a course of study in philosophy. The philosophy of art, surprisingly, was one of my favorite courses, as it ignited a litany of questions regarding ontology and meaning. My master’s thesis was centered on action and pretense—the architecture of the imagination. How might action and language change the conversation? I began to realize that language often plays a pivotal role in establishing meaning. Or rather, distinguishing between the traditional lines of sense and nonsense.
Imagine a world—law. Admission to law school was one of the most challenging and stressful endeavors during my education, given the strict entrance standards associated with the Law School Admissions Test and undergraduate grade point averages. Fortunately, I was accepted to the University of Arkansas, School of Law in the fall semester of 2008. Not surprising, the courses I enjoyed most were philosophically tuned, including Constitutional Law, International Law, Jurisprudence, and Legal Research & Writing. I often wonder, today, if library and information science will circle around to a career in law librarianship.
Imagine a world—technology. After law school, I started working in the mobile telecommunications industry. My focus was negotiating and signing mobile service contracts for all the major brand carriers. I was quickly promoted to AT&T mobile expert where I specialized in championing AT&T products and services. However, I eventually decided to become a brand ambassador for Samsung Electronics of America. As a brand ambassador, I was able to focus my skills on teaching users how to navigate the emerging mobile space—e.g. devices, cloud, operating systems.
Imagine a world—library and information science. As with life, new opportunities abound. I left Samsung for the Poudre River Public Library District. I started working as a library clerk and computer lab monitor. Working as lab monitor provided the opportunity to share my technology skills with the local community. Helping the community navigate new technology and virtual spaces was both awesome and rewarding. When the pandemic hit in 2020, I seized on the opportunity to get an MLIS. Enter the University of South Florida, School of Information, amazing staff, wonderful teachers, incredible.
Imagine a world—what is next? The world awaits!
