LIS 6271 Research Methods in Library and Information Science: I have provided a quantitative and qualitative research proposal below: Measuring the Impact of Collaborative Learning Experiences on Teens in Public Library Makerspaces. In addition, I have provided a video presentation of the project, along with the relevant participant surveys used in the study. The goal is to highlight the importance of the research topic and elicit support for further study from interested parties and stakeholders. Group members' names have been redacted for privacy.
LIS 5937 Digital Storytelling: I have provided an excerpted reading of The Raven by Edgar Allan Poe, created solely by using electronic resources provided by my local public library. Emerging social media and audio/video software provide librarians with new tools to both reach and empower communities. Further research is needed to identify the most useful and cost effective applications which will provide users access to digital advertising, instruction, reporting, and storytelling. Interested parties include library patrons and staff. In addition, audiovisual makerspaces are pivotal in providing equipment, including displays, laptops, microphones, and speakers.
Software and Social Media applications used for The Raven
Microsoft Word: content collection, development, and organization
Adobe Acrobat: script and storyboard publishing
Audacity: audio recording and editing
Microsoft PowerPoint: content and video creation
VLC Media Player: audio/video review and assessment
YouTube: video publishing
LIS 6511 Collection Development: I have provided a Community Profile (Needs Assessment) for the Poudre River Public Library District in Fort Collins, Colorado. The profile compiles circulation statistics and community demographics that will aid in developing and maintaining a diverse collection. The profile also includes the findings from community surveys and focus groups which help identify the Library District's strengths, weaknesses, and opportunities. Community profiles are an invaluable tool for libraries and their collection development teams. I have also provided an updated Collection Development Policy for the Poudre River Public Library District.
