LIS 5020 Foundations of Library and Information Science: Our committee collaboratively updated a public library's Computer Usage Policy. The goal was to create a more equitable, seamless, and unified policy for all library patrons. Each member of the committee contributed valuable insight into his or her own experiences regarding computing policy in public libraries.
LIS 5937 Web Design for Libraries: Demonstrating communication skills in the digital age may be accomplished by reaching digital audiences. I have created a website (using HTML) to introduce myself, and I welcome feedback from the social media links provided. My goal is to establish and maintain a web presence in an ever-changing digital world. Feel free to like and subscribe.
LIS 5937 Digital Storytelling: Digital media is a great resource for communication, whether advertising, archiving, informing, promoting, or storytelling. I have provided a digital short story, Oakley at the Lake, which recounts the times I spent with my beagle at Lake Fayetteville in northwest Arkansas. In addition, the story provides information on the lake and its surroundings, including attractions, facilities, and recreational activities.
LIS 6110 History of Libraries: I have contributed to Wikipedia, providing a detailed history of the Poudre River Public Library District in Fort Collins, Colorado. In addition, I have provided a Latin to English translation of Gottfried Leibniz' library classification system from Otium Hanoveranum Sive Miscellanea (1737). Collaborative editing and information sharing is important for information professionals.
LIS 6409 Introduction to Library Administration: I submitted a project proposal to digitize government documents in Arkansas. The goal is to lower access costs that are becoming increasingly prohibitive due to shipping and travel. Understanding and implementing the basic elements of a project proposal is often directly proportional to its success. Successful project proposals are paramount to library and information organizations.
LIS 5937 Rare Books & Special Collections: I curated a digital exhibit to highlight the civil rights struggle in Arkansas (i.e. the integration of Little Rock Central High School), which includes a promotional video and a detailed informational brochure. Land of (Unequal) Opportunity is a unique exhibit focusing on leadership, people, and struggle. A special thanks to the University of Arkansas Libraries, Special Collections.
